Teaching Philosophy
My goal as a teacher is to help each student develop the necessary skills on the trumpet to successfully pursue a career of teaching and/or performing. My philosophy of teaching emphasizes the fact that a strong fundamental approach is the key to consistent results and success. In order to achieve one’s musical goals, one must be able to be able to master the technical and musical requirements that are necessary in performing different styles of music.
Not all students learn the same way, and I believe that an individualized approach to each student is necessary. I seek to create a learning environment where students can ask questions, make mistakes and overcome obstacles. Through a tailored curriculum of studies, etudes and repertoire, musicianship and technical ability are strengthened and developed. By reinforcing solid fundamentals and good practice habits, students will gain the confidence to express themselves convincingly through music.
As a trumpet studio, I believe that camaraderie is extremely important. I seek to promote a positive, encouraging environment where all students feel comfortable learning. The musical world is a small world, and I believe that students must treat their colleagues with respect, as they are building relationships that will last a lifetime.
